Money Laundering Endemic throughout Canada

Recommended Posts

It's good to be a criminal in Canada. So good foreign criminals are coming here to launder their money. We have few reporting requirements, one of the lowest police per population in the Western world, and judges that smile and gently pat your wrist lightly before wagging a good natured finger at you and sending you on your way. We have so few police they barely even bother investigating white collar crime, fraud or, of course, money laundering. But at least they're the best paid in the world!

According to Prof. Maloney’s report, commissioned by the Finance Minister to examine the role of financial regulations, B.C. ranks fourth among Canada’s regions for the amount of dirty money being laundered, behind Alberta, Ontario and the Prairies. The total amount of money laundered in Canada last year, her task force estimates, exceeds $40-billion.

It comes with the territory. Let's take Singapore as an example. Singapore has a more effective self-exclusion program from casinos than Canada does, so that helps to curb money-laundering through gambling. Singapore requires SIMs to be registered, so it makes it harder to engage in drug trafficking and human trafficking, etc.

Singapore knows how to deal with drug traffickers. 'Nuff said on that point.

Money laundering is an interesting crime in that pretty much by definition, it stems from another crime which then requires the money to be white-washed into legality. If we can tackle other crimes, then money laundering will dovetail with that. If we want lax laws, that's what we get. We made our bed so we can sleep in it.

Maybe the only area where we do slightly better than Singapore is in prostitution. Under the Swedish model, we can greatly diminish rates of prostitution, another major source of tax evasion, and human trafficking, another major source of money laundering.

This is news?

In any case, it's why I often say our grandparents would be appalled at how much our economy now depends on oligarchs and despots. After they spent some 25% of Canad,'s GDP to fight tyranny.. unbelievable.

It's no surprise our financial services sector would expand into the criminal economy.

If we don't, someone else will.  You know how that argument goes.

Criminals are not stupid. They know that Gov't don't care if Gov't makes a cut and the laundering process affects no one. The money parking caused problem here.

Crime is not a big deal, among liberals.

It's not only liberals. Even conservatives fear any kind of regulation because it's 'tyranny'. Heck, even some Conservaties would like ot decriminalize prostitution. Some would find it insane to adobt the British online-porn policy requiring a person to opt in with proof of ID as if that would somehow be censorship. The idea of needing to scan ID and fingerprint to enter a casino is treated as fascist as if we have a fundamental right to enter a casino.

And the idea of forcing a person to register a SIM card? Oh my! Seriously, we've gone insanely libertarian as a country.

What in the hell are you even talking about? First, the British anti-porn crusade is delusional and idiotic. Second, laws against money laundering are not 'tyranny', and I don't know anyone who thinks otherwise. The problem is that governments in Canada only respond to votes, and there aren't a lot of votes to be had in worrying about money laundering because Canadians are largely ignorant of it, so government's don't bother about it.

Money laundering is a somewhat unique crime in that it generally stems from other crimes. The whole point of it is to hide the source of dirty money. So reduce overall crime rates, and money laundering will decline along with it. Much of that money comes from loansharking, prostitution, and the drug trade; so shut those down to a reasonable degree, and much money laundering will disappear along with it since then there'd be less money to launder in the first place. So introduce effective self exclusion from casinos, and loansharks would lose much money there. Keep criminalizing buying sex, and that cuts off much money there. Now we just need to tighten our grip on narcotics trafficking.

As for porn, there is ever more research showing its harms on society.

A little hard to do when a lot of it is coming in from China.

We've been trying to do all that for generations. But it's not helpful that they can so easily hide the dirty source of their funds through laundering it. Other countries do far more to control it, and we should too.

There's virtually NO such research other than that which comes from the pre-determined minds of prudes, bluenoses and shrill feminists.

I find it odd that the societies where porn is most repressed are also the societies in which women are the most repressed, and where human rights are the most repressed. And we're supposed to emulate that to... to have  a better society? No. I don't want to be Iran or Saudi Arabia or China, thanks.

Arrest the real criminals, the political party elites who steal from Ontario and Alberta to pay off a mafia in Quebec.

Not enough cops. They're too busy pulling people like me over for a sticker violation.

Or a no probable cause stop to take saliva to put in a machine which will detect heroin in your system if you ate a poppy seed bagel from Tim Hortons.

Arrest the police too, constitutional criminals are the most heinous, citizens arrest, fetch the rope.

It is rather irritating to read of this story when CRA is so keen on such items as foreign property worth over 100k. They seem to prefer the low-hanging fruit that requires little effort to pick.

Nonsense. I'm very conscientious with my punctuation. Case in point:

It's quite obvious what the Media Party objective is here.

It's a bait and switch.

The Globe & Mail comes out with "ZOMG Foreign Organized Crime!"

Then the Liberals will use it as a rubric to gather more information on ordinary middle class Canadians who will be the ones who get prosecuted and persecuted as a result.

And no, the Cuckservatives will not save you, they are in the pockets of the police unions, they just want to steal your money to hand it straight to the cops.

The Liberals spread it around to all the unions, the Cucks work for the Po-Po.

There is no Canada, there is just a public sector unionized Self Licking Ice Cream Cone Vampire Squid out to throw you in jail and make you pay for the privilege.

We don't need more laws, we need a revolution.

Academics, unions,  and their media enablers.

Do not empathize.  This is the enemy.   Harden your hearts and compartmentalize.

To slay a Vampire Squid,  there must be no quarter, no mercy.

The liberals own the RCMP the OPP. Just look at the keystone investigation in to the crime and corruption of Wynne"s government and how the RCMP handled the Admirals case. It was the liberals that made unions way to powerful.

The Cuckservatives are simply the Washington Generals to the Liberal Globetrotters.  Paid to take a dive.   A Cuck is worse than a Liberal, the Cucks are traitors to their own.

It's not The Libs v.  The Cons.

It's one big Liberal apparatus with faux stalking horse opponents to sucker the rubes.

The Cons don't even want your support, they are courting disaffected Liberals, because the Cons are simply the other Libs.

These academic, union, and media elites, are all the same party.

They're totally interchangeable, the Cons simply represent a faction led by the police unions.

Not saying I like Andrew Scheer or the CPC in every way, but they are exactly the kind of political party Canada needs. Not too fucking extreme.
Anyway off topic

Disagree.   The left in Canada is extreme and the CPC cowards will ceaselessly cuck in the face of the academics, unions and the CBC.

Once in office, the Cons will fold on everything, they'll even have a carbon tax,  they'll just call it something else.

The Cons are just as supine in the face of the fundamentally leftist entrenched interests in Ottawa.

This is already a civil war, the Cons are not warfighters, things will have to get worse before people on the right realize that they are the Kulaks.

Once you do realize that you are a Kulak, then you will see that counterrevolution is the only solution, and the fat cat Cons ain't down for that.

Harper had a decade, he cucked on everything, Harper was the biggest cuck of them all, and Scheer is just his little monkeyboi sidekick.
