17 year old teen allowed to be euthanized due to depression

Recommended Posts

This is what the West has become, in the Netherlands.

Netherlands teen raped as child is legally euthanized due to ‘unbearable’ pain

A 17-year-old Dutch girl was legally allowed to kill herself using euthanasia after she was raped when younger and spent years battling depression, according to a report Tuesday.

“Love is letting go, in this case,” Noa Pothoven of Arnhem wrote in an Instagram post announcing her choice to die in the living room of her home Sunday.

Pothoven — who was sexually abused at 11 and raped three years later — said she was sick of suffering “unbearable pain.

“Maybe this comes as a surprise to some, given my posts about hospitalization, but my plan has been there for a long time and is not impulsive,” she wrote.

“I will get straight to the point: within a maximum of 10 days I will die,” she added. “After years of battling and fighting, I am drained. I have quit eating and drinking for a while now, and after many discussions and evaluations, it was decided to let me go because my suffering is unbearable.

”I breathe, but I no longer live.”

In The Netherlands, kids ages 12 to 16 need permission from a parent to be euthanized and must have consulted a doctor, who agrees that their suffering is unbearable and likely to continue.

But at 17, children no longer need their parents’ consent to apply to kill themselves. Pothoven turned 17 in December.

The Netherlands legalized euthanasia in 2001 — the year she was born.

That is very disturbing, it sure is a slippery slope.

It's a pretty sad story alright.  If the only way to prevent something like this is to give the government more power to take back people's rights to choose I think you'll find that's the slipperier slope.  If the price of less intrusion into our lives or deaths is an occasional wrenching of one's heart or conscience I think I can live with that.

I just hope they catch the bastards who ruined her life.

Sadly I think this is going to become common, and not even parents will be able to prevent doctors from signing off on it.  I also think there will be pressure on the elderly to take their own lives.  It won’t be publicized, but elderly parents will feel the pressure to go.  In some cases they will be told, “It’s time.”   There’s a very dark future shock quality to euthanasia.  If pressure on resources grows, these kinds of practices will be condoned like partial birth abortions of eight or nine month old infants in China.

That's the problem...and we all saw it coming.  I generally have supported euthanasia in the past, but it is a slippery slope.  Everyone is for it, scoffs at the idea that it will turn into this, but when you cant legally distinguish "pain", this is where it inevitably ends.

Slippery slope is an idiotic fallacy, the idea that 17 year olds will be euthanizing themselves left and right is nonsense.

Maybe....in Chicago, they don't need no steenkin' euthanasia law to kill themselves...they only need bullets.

She stopped eating and drinking; the first time they force fed her.   This time it seems they decided instead to believe what she told them and rather than let her die slowly of thirst, they consented to euthanasia.

It's a pretty sad story for sure, but would hanging herself in her bedroom, or slitting her wrists in the bathtub for her parents to find her be a better outcome?  This way, her parents could say goodbye and be with her till the end.

Western is getting more mad with each passing day. You are destroying the future of your kids with your hands. Bravo.

Western countries are also trying to spread the same corruption to other countries in the World.

All of the U.S., not just where the darker colored skin tones are.

I didn't know how many people were fine with teen suicide until now.  Personally, I think the system failed this young girl.

Life is struggle, only the strong survive.

I can't generate any empathy for such a pathetic creature.

All I can think of is Anne Frank fighting so hard to live, only to be killed mere weeks before the Netherlands could be liberated, that's who I would shed a tear for.

False choice.

This is the progressive dream.  If this constitutes progress, count me out.  It's deplorable.

How the government allowed a minor to take her own life with assistance is beyond me.

You’re right to feel that way.  Most cases of depression are biochemical imbalances that can be treated through medication and/or therapy.  I have a problem with medically assisted suicide because it runs counter to the Hyppocratic Oath doctors take to save lives.  If such a right to die must exist, there must be a condition to try all other medical options prior to giving any assistance to suicide, which is really collaborating in murder, however gently and “mercifully” it is done.

Just know something when it comes to Liberalism, which I consider mental illness in its purest form.

Liberals don't care about the value of human life.

It started with foetuses, then it started with old demented folks, then the slope is slippery enough to think that Human Life, even for someone physically apt, is worthless.

You'll see that in the future, we'll care less and less about living well, but to die well.

A 17 year old could legally make arrangements with a doctor to have medically assisted suicide in the Netherlands without any parent knowledge or involvement.

On another note, Trudeau has just promised billions of dollars, a good portion of which will be funding abortions, to “improve child and maternal” health: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiSpqWvm9PiAhXHslkKHTukAnEQzPwBegQIARAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ctvnews.ca%2Fpolitics%2Fpm-trudeau-increasing-funding-for-global-women-s-health-to-1-4-billion-1.4451177&psig=AOvVaw3h1R3YE32zTKvM94GzoE1n&ust=1559854070169527

Whatever people may feel about the “right to choose”, it’s pretty partisan and reckless for a government with massive debt to dedicate billions in tax dollars to this kind of dubious so called “international aid.”

Have you read what was just written? It is totally related. The teen was authorized to commit suicide with assistance.

This news from Holland is related to Canadian aid policy?

Wait, have you read the first point he made?

'A 17 year old could legally make arrangements with a doctor to have medically assisted suicide in the Netherlands without any parent knowledge or involvement.  ' (Zeitgeist, answering the fact you brought up that she was not euthanized, which is true, she wasn't euthanized, but left to die.

Right - so: Euthanasia in Holland... Trudeau's aid policy... you are casting a wide net.

This is so wrong.  Millions of Canadians suffer from mental health issues. To not criminalize this is insane. Society is sending a clear message: If you have mental health problems, kill yourself.
