Advice for Federal Liberals: 22/10/2019

Recommended Posts

Situation 1: You clearly win more seats than Scheer and the Conservatives - say, your 154 vs Scheer's 142. It's 1972 all over again.

Meet the GG, form a government,  go to the Commons. Test your confidence.

Situation 2: You win fewer seats than Scheer and the Conservatives - say, even, your 152 vs Scheer's 153.

Resign. Let Scheer go to the GG and form a government. It's 1979 all over again.

===

In Situation 2, don't do a BC 2017.

Amazing, no response to this thread.

=====

Ir's unlikely that Trudeau/Scheer will win a majority in 2019...

Then what?

Clueless.

If you think the Liberals are going to lose, you're in for a rude awakening.

Wishful thinking is a helluva drug.

Why not if the system allows it? How is this advice going to help the Liberals? Even if Scheer gets more seats, small ‘c’ conservatives will remain a minority in Canada. It’s time for more coalitions.

This is 1972, but Trudeau Jnr is not facing Stanfield (Scheer has resigned) in 1974.

Heck, this is not Trudeau Snr. The federal Liberals have Margaret for the next election.

On a much more serious point, I reckon that a few more voters will soon realize that the success of Canada is not based on the name "Trudeau" or the brand "Liberal".  Canada works well because of ordinary Canadians.

I agree, but there are fewer of those remaining IMO.  It feels like we have fewer practical people around these days.  We have angry people who refuse to learn, read, or listen.  And we have angry people who think that the politics of social identity should be the #1 issue in every election.

MH,

Federal Liberal party members believe that this is 1974/1980, and they have another Trudeau.

They ignore that Canada has changed - Alberta, the West matters.

And they ignore that federal Liberals lost under several leaders - Ignatieff, Dion.

Well I think that you have something there.  The main point is that they are out of touch.

The party and parties need policies that are relevant and pragmatic.

For the life of me I can't understand why Canadian leaders adamantly refuse to invest in clean energy but fiercely protect big oil and the extractives, the source of climate change and a litany of other things. And they defend their destructive, irresponsible behaviour with lies. Are we all such fools as to just continue to let them do it after, what, 40 years of professional council against fossil fuels. Instead, they need to be brought to account for forcefully supporting power brokers for their money, for what they have done to the country, their own constituents, and all our kids.

Janet,

Big Oil? Like Big Tobacco?

According to you, oil is like tobacco - another carcinogen. Really?
