Marriages before the age of 18: for or against?

Recommended Posts

Of course, I have nothing against the religious beliefs of people who adhere to their religion, however, for me personally, marrying of an adult man to a girl is immoral and I can not react indifferently to this topic.

Early marriage and early onset of sexual activity have long-term consequences for women's health.

Also, in poor countries, a young mother, being forced to quit her education and begin to do household work, is deprived of the opportunity to get a profession and is economically or completely dependent on her husband.

Humans have proven that the fact we can copulate does not necessarily mean we have sufficient intelligence to manage the consequences  and so the age old question that has resulted from it,  is how to guarantee people who copulate can  manage the consequences of it.

Right now I would say biological age is but one of my precursors that may provide indication of a lack of management ability.

I think most people would fail a test on sexual relations competency.

I'm starting to doubt if people should even be allowed to vote at 18.

How about we skip the voting age, and make people pass an 50 question exam to vote...

The will have to answer questions like.

What is Canada's current national debt.

What is our current deficit.

What is our trade balance.

You give them a 3 hour study guide to read.

If a 10 year old can answer those questions, let them vote.

OK, Rue, I really need to know:  did you make that up on the fly, or had you been thinking of that previously?   Made my day, thanks.

Since no two humans mature at the same rate, trying to put some arbitrary number on what is a rather significant point in one's life doesn't seem possible.  We have one kid I swear was BORNE 18 years old, and another who took a bit longer to get there.  I was married at 20, and if I look back, would have been far better to have done so two years earlier (certainly not because of MY maturity at that time!).

Going back to Rue's insightful and playful post: for instance, who are we to tell someone how many consenting adults (BTW, THAT part is or should be sacrosanct) can live together (i.e. be wed)??  Need to objectively separate religion from science to legislate well.

I can agree that children DO need some kind of protection codified by the state, but since I just don't have the skill sets to come up with a definitive answer, I can only pose further questions.

I consider marriage to be a statement of maturity intended to formalize our monogamy as 'social' creatures, whereby two people indicate that they are capable of altruistically caring for each other regardless of current or future difficulties.

The 'typical' (but not absolute) purpose of which implies that should offspring emerge from this union (through procreation or adoption) that these children will be cared for appropriately due to the notion that the partnership is collectively mature enough to weather the trials and consequences of raising physically and emotionally healthy children.

The way I look at it, maturity does not just represent emotional balance but also the ability to foresee potential problems in the future before they arise and allow us to not just 'react' as a problem presents itself. For that, an individual would have needed to live their own life and gained enough experience independently encountering troubles and learning to overcome them - establishing personal balance and social routines as well as coming to terms with who they are and who they want to be.

We all need time to develop who we are as an individual and that personal development could not be said to have completed by the age of 18 no matter where you live and as a consequence your preferences and priorities would naturally shift over time in finding an appropriate partner.

Marriage before the age of 18 is the hallmark of a bygone era that may have seen necessity as an agent of the decision making process. A necessity that social and technological change has allowed us to move beyond in buying our youth the time to mature in the face of ideally life-long decisions.

The Canadian Government is planning to waste at least $235 million for a project, The Thirty Meter Telescope, which won't even be built on Canadian soil.  The Thirty Meter Telescope most likely will employ few Canadians.  To make matters worse, the telescope will be built in Hawaii, USA on land which is both environmentally and religiously sensitive to the indigenous Hawaiians.  I hope everybody will protest against the waste of tax money and human rights abuses.  Please sign the petition to stop the injustice happening within the USA at the expense of Canadian taxpayers.  I am posting a link to an online petition against the Thirty Meter Telescope and waste of taxpayer money: https://www.change.org/p/justin-trudeau-a-call-to-divest-canada-s-research-funding-for-the-thirty-meter-telescope-on-mauna-kea

3 Legislation for Investing in Meditation and Genome, What They Should Do

      By Exegesisme

On my experience of meditation, and the exegesis of the experience and other human experiences recorded in classical literatures, there is supernatural world, and supernatural beings can communicate with any natural being and any living being. Human dream is the phenomena of the interactions among information of genome, information of new experience from environment, and information from supernatural beings. I have kept a record about more than 1 million words around my supernatural experience. They very likely are aliens who human beings want to look for scientifically.

Through proper training of meditation, a human meditator can achieve a state of various inner senses, they communicate with human through human inner senses. Sometimes a common human feels a sudden fear without obvious reason, maybe a warning from them. Messages from them usually are subtle and weak, so human beings can live a life without paying clear attention at them. As an example, people can simply ignore dream. This situation somewhat likes human could live with classical physics before the discoveries of theories of relativity and quantum.

The messages of the communication may be coded into unknown neutrinos and/or gravitons. In human knowledge these two sorts of particles can go into human body. As a human jumps up and gets a feeling of gravity, the person may not know the gravity is not only a force, but also huge particles with huge information. Usually human beings ignore the information coded in gravity, as a student in a classroom ignores the teaching of a teacher.

Genome is not only functional as the core of general biology, and also as the core of spirit, mind, soul, emotion and knowledge. Genome records message not only through the order of chemical bases, and also through electromagnetic interaction of the charged particles in DNA molecules and gravitational interaction of all real particles in DNA molecules. The supernatural phenomena appeared in the state of meditation, sleep and dream are evidences of these interactions, and human upset with the supernatural phenomena is the object of psychiatric study.

All human religions and human mythologies are from the same source, and through with different exegesis of different denomination. My experience is partially linked with Buddhism, my exegesis is based on Christianity and modern sciences. The supernatural beings also have discussed other religions with me. They often give false messages to encourage irrational behaviors, but allow human meditator to debate with them rationally. You can imagine the dialogues between Moses and God, and between John and various angels.

Their grammars are somewhat different from human grammars. They like to use one word to express different things. The meditator often hear they say one word to mean every possible thing. There is a hierarchical structure of meaning in their expression, from surface to deep, and even radiating out. Their messages usually are very vague, and sometimes consciously misleading, and also guiding human towards new knowledge, forming hypothesis about phenomena in unknown realm.

They warned me yesterday night evil cults would emerge enormously, if meditators half rationally and half irrationally accept their irrational encouragements. With the popularity of meditation, I believe this warning. Before this time, they had already discussed with me several times about possible new legislation related to the relationship between human world and supernatural world.

I have a feeling they take us human as the objects of their experimental observation, which may be a proper hypothesis to explain the very complex interactions between them and us human, and their attitudes towards the results of these interactions. We, human, as a whole, need through legislation to tell them our general attitude to the relationship with them. I believe there is perfect one and only perfect one god, who also guides them.

With these knowledge more witnesses, more evidences, and more public, I believe human society may be heavily reshaped. All human behaviors are recorded in their observation, this fact will become a part of human self-consciousness, and human beings will much more concern the long term influences of their behaviors on each moment.

I suggest the parliament hold a hearing, to collect witnesses and evidences of supernatural phenomena from meditators, as preparation for legislation in the relationship between human beings and supernatural beings, making the constitutional expression "the supremacy of god" meaningful, and as adjustment for investing in the field of meditation and genome. I believe this is the most important thing the current parliament should do.

So, finally getting around to this story with respect to sexism and religious freedom/accommodation.
It seems that several plane flights have been delayed thanks to Orthodox Jews who insist on not sitting next to woman.
See this story and the links within it: https://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/jews-on-a-plane-a-readers-take/
I particularly like the video in that story although I am sure we have all seen it by now.
Anyway, just curious as to people's thoughts on this.
      ----
Ok, got the poll to work now.
I say to hell with the Orthodox religious nut jobs.... women before wacko ideas about sitting next to women.

      Dear Swan,
I appreciate your email. However, both my partner and I have waited over five years for the vaguely termed "security background checks" process to end so that we can have some sort of finality in our lives.
As far as Immigration Canada is concerned, I would like to point out the following:
They have exhibited a carelessness, lack of empathy and incompetence during this whole process. In part, this has can be illustrated with the following examples:
      a) They called me to tell me that a letter asking me to pick up my permanent resident card was a "mistake" and not to show up for the assigned time.
b>They told me in 2011 that my PR card was in the local office and would be in the mail "within a week," only to renege and not even have the common courtesy to explain why.
      c) A CIC representative told me over the phone that he has no idea what is going on and that there are two filing systems that are overlapping and not synchronized.
      d) The F.B.I., the California Department of Justice, the Texas Department of Public Safety have all sent letters to CIC vouching for the fact that I do not have any kind of a criminal record.
      e) I have been a citizen of the United States since 1999, and a resident since 1994. I have NEVER gotten into any kind of legal troubles, neither criminal nor civil.
Given all the above, my question is: What possible reason is there for my application being held in limbo, with no information forthcoming, for over five years?
As far as Wai Young's local office in her constituency of South Vancouver and your personal conduct is concerned, I would like to point out the following:
      a) I was severely disappointed that you did not warrant my personal pain and grievance at being treated in such a manner by CIC worthy of any kind of personal attention by Miss Young.
b>Miss Young apparently does not think that my wife (a Canadian citizen), or her father (a Canadian citizen) warrant any special attention. We will be sure to tell of our experience with your office to others. My father in law is very well known and influential in the local Sikh community, and he will be sure to give voice to our feelings about Miss Young and her attitude far and wide.
      c) Your question of whether I had considered giving up a five year old application process to return to the United States was extremely insensitive and callous.
      d) I understand that Miss Young is an MP for the Conservative party, led by Stephen Harper no less, and that she is not expected to be particularly concerned about immigrant issues. However, given the fact that you are either the child of immigrants as is Miss Young, I found both your attitudes shameful at best and inhumane at worse.
      e) Next time you ask someone why they don't just drop an application for immigration and return to where they came from, I would ask you to consider the following:
      1) It takes a lot of logistical, psychological, financial and personal investment to move from one country to another and wait five years for an immigration application that should normally take no more than two years.
      2) It is very hurtful that someone who is supposed to help my family would suggest such a thing, albeit in a polite tone.
      3) Immigration policies that are based on and take advantage of the fear and prejudice engendered against one particular ethnicity or religious group set a dangerous precedent that could affect you in the future. One can only imagine what would happen in case of a major conflagration between the United States and China (a very possible scenario in the not too distant future) given Canada standing as a member of NATO. You or your children could very well face the kind of hurtful discrimination that my family has faced under such a scenario. Your smug assumption that you are 'Canadian' enough to treat me in such a manner will come crashing down under such circumstances. Please don't forget that you are the child of an immigrants, and however, 'Canadian' you may perceive yourself, you are only one international incident away from being treated with suspicion for no fault of your own.
      Sincerely,
