That is the choice they have made. They have the choice of not containing it.

Sure they do, they could just let it spread. Because that is a rational position to be considered, without repercussions.

What are the facts they know so far about this virus?

It also has some HIV components, right?

American cruise ship passenger tests positive in Malaysia after hundreds left ship, China death toll at 1,665

An American woman who was previously aboard the MS Westerdam cruise ship in Cambodia has been tested positive after a second test for the coronavirus in Malaysia, local health authorities said Sunday. The results came after hundreds of passengers were already allowed to leave the ship, and authorities say that more than 140 of those passengers traveled through Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur airport.

Many of them traveled to onward destinations in the U.S., Europe and Australia, officials said.

This should be a credible source of info:

How 2019-nCoV Spreads

On February 11, 2020 the World Health Organization announced an official name for the disease that is causing the current outbreak of coronavirus disease, COVID-19. CDC will be updating our website and other CDC materials to reflect the updated name.

China now also has a serious outbreak of the bird flu.

For Chinese communists, the chickens are literally coming home to roost.

Very little can be said with certainty at the moment. The mortality rate may be less than 2% given that many of those infected were asymptomatic and missed so far. Even if it’s ‘just’ 1% it would still be more dangerous than regular flu.

Apparently, the South Koreans have tested thousands already which has bumped up their number of positive cases considerably. Do we have enough of the following: testing kits; protective equipment; ventilators; drugs; beds? I kinda know we don’t have enough beds if a big surge happens. This is the sort of situation where you’d like to still have someone like Jane Philpott as Minister of Health or at least in the Cabinet...

If the Chinese continue letting exotic respiratory viruses jump the species barrier, regular flu season will become a more rigorous weeding-out process for geezers.

No. Each virus is unique. This one unlike HIV is not primarily spread by sex.

People are going nuts, as if it's Armageddon, fights over toilet paper in Australia and lining up at Costco .   I was unable to find hand sanitizer anywhere yesterday, not even on line unless you are willing to pay big bucks.

If you are desperate burn one of those candles from Gwyneth Paltrow that smell like her you know what. It supposedly purifies the room. Oh tell me the world is not insane.
