new program for depression to be offered

Recommended Posts

I was quite surprised today to see an announcement from the Ontario Ministry of Health that they will provide free counselling for persons suffering from anxiety and depression.

Right now one of 4 Canadians is off work at some time due to anxiety or depression and it costs billions in lost income each year due to work absences.

This government has been accused of being harsh, insensitive, etc., but has just done something very progressive and enlightened. Right now if you have depression or anxiety you have to wait months to see a psychiatrist under OHIP. The psychiatrist is usually so over-booked the best he or she does is give you a brief 15 minute interview and sends you back to your your gp who may have to give you anti anxiety or anti depressant medication. The medication itself may or may not help but without adjunct (associated, attached) cognitive therapy the medication in itself may not be as effective as monitoring the medication and also guiding individuals how to identify triggers for negative behaviour.

Now for many this will not be noticed but its huge (excuse the Trump word) in terms of implications. It will intercept numerous domestic violence scenarios and prevent them. It will intercept persons who might otherwise act out with violence or driving drunk or skipping work or committing suicide or  crimes. In the short term it costs for the counsellors to be funded but in the long term it deals with an actually wide spread issue that costs medical care in the long run more than it will prevent with the short term immediate funding expense.

Its something the supposed left wing NDP and Liberals never considered. Very far sighted.

Next time someone blasts this government as uncaring it may want to think twice. This government has taken a lot of heat over issues dealing with disability issues particularly the cost of autism programs mainstreaming disabilities in schools that it has not created but is trying to fairly deal with.

I applaud this constructive announcement.

Kind of late, but it's better than never.

They've only been in office for a couple of years.

It is the government that helps create anxiety and depression. Government IS the bloody problem. They create the anxiety and depression problems and then try to pretend that they will fix the problems. Get the government out of we the people's lives, and things will get better. In the old days in the beginning of Canada there was no Ministry of Health. People learned that they had to adapt and fight for their well being or quit and go back from whence they came.

Liberalism/socialism??????

Let's put credit where credit is due.  Good news from the Ford government.

Let's wait and see if it will be all good news in a few years from now. I will bet you that anxiety and depression will still be around. I have an anxiety and depression problem alright, and it can all be blamed on the government for the way I am feeling and being treated by them these days. Their total contempt for me the taxpayer makes me feel quite sad and depressed. Maybe I should go pay the Ministry a visit. I kind of doubt though that they will be able to help fix my sad and depressed state that they already put me in. Geez, they may even make it worse knowing now how the government works these days.  ;)

Indeed, the socialist welfare gulag is its own disease, the secret to avoiding the associated anxiety is divesting yourself of it by taking control of your life through capital gains.

Wow.  Ford lost Taxme... And I am happy with something they did.  Strange days.

And - no - depression won't be eliminated in Ontario.

Maybe Ford is turning into a liberal or worse yet a socialist. Boy, will that ever make you happy. This program should help you get rid of some of your anxiety and depression that you have for Ford. And all the tax dollars that will be blown on trying to end depression in Ontario will be tax dollars gone down the drain. Anything for free will get people to come on down and let's see if we can fix your depressed problem for you. This should give some of those government workers a job for a lifetime for sure.

Strange days indeed. ;)

Not really, this is what the Red Tories do, they're just the Other Liberals, Doug Ford is from Toronto, they aren't actually conservatives in Etobicoke, it ain't Idaho.

Most people create their own anxiety and depression with the help of the government of course. It would appear today that people have become to reliable on the government for their very existence. This was not the case 60 years ago before good old liberalism and socialism came on the scene big time in Canada.

The people that did live under socialism or communism lived a life of misery, anxiety and depression, and the government was all responsible for that. Living under liberalism, socialism or communism has only been great for people who are lazy and useless and who never gave a chit about anything in society anyway. They make great communists. As long as the government gives them free money, they could careless if they lived under communism. But hey, what more can be said, eh?  ;)

Well I'm lazy, but I pay my own way, in fact I pay for the other lazy people

I am not actually opposed to laziness, the Protestant Work Ethic itself is actually French ; John Calvin's real name was Jehan Cauvin.

Bear in mind, Taxman, socialism is the masses demanding to be worked to death at the coal face

Originally the impetus for this was religion, hyper Protestant French Huguenots insisted it was the only way to get into Heavan

But I'm a Diest, like that lazy slaveholder Thomas Jefferson, so I don't go for all that French work for its own sake bugaboo.

Work is bullshit, jobs are jails, defend your laziness.

I cannot quite put a finger on Ford just yet. But If I know conservatives, they always will coward out on their conservative ideas and principles in the end and will try to please their leftist liberal and socialist political opponents and the leftist Canadian media to hopefully try to win favor from them in the next election and stay in power for another term. Sad part is that conservatives never seem to learn anything, and they never will. The liberals and socialists and the bought off Canadian media hates their conservative guts. They will never please those Canada haters ever. It would be better for them to just stand on their conservative principles, like Maxine Bernier is doing, and dam the consequences. The people will decide if they are worth their vote or not. Someone needs to tell these liberal conservative fools.

But for the government to try and eradicate anxiety and depression in society is truly going to be an exercise in futility to try and take on. The doors will be swinging back and forth with victims of anxiety and depression, and the government appears to like it that way. It gives the government and their bureaucracy something to do to kill the day until pension time. ;)

Like I've told you before, it's all about the central banks, the masses are not going to embrace conservatism in a free money world.

So long as nobody is paying the actual price of things, the socialist la-la-land will persist.

Ford doesn't anger or depress me.  I'm happy his simple-minded populism is dying so readily.  He's currently trailing "any liberal"... which is saying something.  The Conservatives have a bunch of bright people, so why they elect horse's asses like Dougie is a mystery to me.

But I'm glad he did this.

Once again, Canada is like a soft Soviet Union, an Iron Curtain against American freedom, which is none the less propped up by oil and King Dollar.

When did Conservatives turn into complete hyperbole composers ?

Who is supposed to be convinced that Canada is a Soviet Union exactly ?  I think our corporate tax rate is STILL lower than America's ?

Anyway.... good to read these things occasionally on a stroll...

Nobody pays the corporate tax rate in America, American corporations don't pay much tax at all.

And what about the other horses asses out there who voted for that commie liberal called Wynne? What she did to the province of Ontario was a disaster. She did such a bad job as the commie dictator of Ontario that she was voted overwhelming out of power for the chit that she forced on what was once a great WASP conservative province. Can you tell me a couple of things as to what Wynne ever did for Ontario that helped to make Ontario great again? More gay rights? More immigration? Go ahead and make your liberal day, fella.

And what is Ford doing that has not been so great for Ontario? Things that are conservative?

So, who says that Ford is trailing? The leftist liberal anti Ford lying Toronto Star who hates Ford's guts? I doubt that the liberals have anyone better to offer the Ontario people. If the people thinks that Ford is doing such a bad job, well they will get their chance in another couple of years to vote Ford out, and maybe get a chance to put in another disaster of a leftist liberal back in power. The leftist liberal and socialists in Ontario will be voting for another bunch of liberal crooks, thieves, and liars if they can get one of their corrupt men or women into power once again. So, who in the Ontario liberal party are you rooting for? Have a favorite and why? I am excited to hear. ;)

The pro old Soviet Union commie Canadians that we have here in Canada today want that Iron Curtain to go up even higher so nothing American will get up and over. Hell, what Canada does not need from America is more of American freedom and capitalism. They appear to want more of Stalin communism rather than Trump's freedom and capitalism. That alone is quite depressing to me to think that most Canadians believe that America is the bogeyman here, and globalist comrade Trudeau is the hero of Canada. Why do the people of Canada keep putting up with dictators like Trudeau is beyond me. The guy has done nothing that one could say was good or great for Canada since he came into power. Very depressing, yes/no? ;)
