Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?

Most voters supported Clinton.

No, not even close.   Clinton had fewer votes of the votes cast than for all other candidates, and even less for all eligible voters.

Trump plays back the words of the mainstream media from January and February downplaying the virus at today’s briefing.  He also played back Democrats own words from January, February and March downpl

This is what Trump is up against

Americans don't trust government to solve all their problems...it is not like it is in Canada. Trumpers know the damn govmint usually hoses things up anyway. Just need canned food, water, to

Trump didn't cause the coronavirus.  But he did cause this.  Despite having the advantages of massive wealth and months of advance notice, the US is now the epicenter of this mess.  Trump delayed, denied and obfuscated his way through inaction and he now owns the results.  There are credible reports that his administration is punishing states that criticize him by denying them medical supplies.  The way trends are going, it will soon be worse than Italy, with overcrowded hospitals and doctors flipping coins to determine who lives and who dies.  If complete chaos is avoided, it's only due to the actions and leadership shown by states and cities.

Watch the body language when doctors, scientists or other professionals share the stage with this buffoon.  They are clearly embarrassed and horrified that this self-aggrandizing man baby has somehow become president but anyone who says anything contrary to him is removed from the stage.  His own administration (Pence included) are constantly toadying to him in a way that would embarrass Kim-Jong-un.  The fact that Trump's popularity is still growing in the US is a national disgrace and speaks poorly about the state of wisdom and intelligence in that country.

I have nothing but contempt for the Republican Party or anyone who continues to support Trump.  Democracy depends on people being wise and humble enough to see the limits of their own abilities; and also wise enough to recognize the strengths and limits of others.  On this basis, democracy is failing miserably.  Perhaps, it will be another casualty of the virus.

More abject stupidity from a president who appeals to the least discriminating and least intelligent people.

Trump promotes dangerous drugs of questionable efficacy.

Sam Ghali, an emergency physician in Lexington, Kentucky, tweeted that the President’s recommendation involved “a DANGEROUS combination of drugs with tons of side effects,” and that “together they can make your heart go into abnormal rhythms and even KILL you.”

After Trump’s comments about hydroxychloroquine, Marino began tweeting about the coronavirus. Whereas before he had dispelled gross exaggerations about fentanyl, he now found himself urging politicians and the public to take the risks of HCQ more seriously. He told me, “There’s very few things that make me clench up inside, and hydroxychloroquine is on the short list, because it’s so toxic.”

Hey Reefer, good to see you're still upright and breathing.

The only cure for the virus that's long long infected our governance remains the same as it was when I started posting here...hence the name eyeball.

This is basically what the public is limited to using when monitoring what our governments are up to.

NST #174: A Beautiful Mind (2001), part 4 — The Vault of Culture

Here is what our governments have in mind for using on us.

Coronavirus: South Korea's success in controlling disease is due ...

Anything wrong with this picture folks?  I certainly don't mind being surveilled where it matters when protecting a public interest, I've spent many many hours after all labouring under the watchful eyes of cameras, GPS, AIS, GIS, a paper trail a mile wide and even human observers on occasion to justify my existence to various layers of managers and investors in the economy.  I've even paid for the cost of my own oversight.

It's just that I'd like to know what my betters are up to as well.  Why is that so weird and difficult for so many people to get their heads around or their asses behind any kind of a push to make it happen?

I'm quite certain that had we outlawed in-camera lobbying even a decade ago we'd be that less farther behind our efforts to contain this crisis of governance.

No cameras out here on the edge of the woods, but the Chinese actually use drones to chase people back into their houses now

Not really that effective when you have tree cover though, so the woods provide as always

Trump is more popular than ever, but there's more to the story

Sorry to the haters, doubters and slack-jawed disbelievers: Donald Trump has the highest approval ratings of his presidency.

The barrage of criticism he's faced in the media over his handling of the COVID-19 crisis does not erase the fact that he's getting decent marks from the public.

The fact Trump's getting decent marks doesn't mean the criticism isn't valid or that he's handling the crisis appropriately.

If there's anything COVID-19 is best known for its the fluidity of any numbers people try to put around it.

Trump has made some very crude and stupid remarks but he is also  a script reader. He has little if any say in how the virus is being managed. I also do not see what he is doing in regards to the virus in any way shape or form a partisan decision. Its based on a network of information deciding on how best to avoid overloads in hospitals running by the seat of its pants making policy up as it goes along as more ever changing info comes in on the virus. There is no real conspiracy-the nature of information flow is disjointed, fragmented, often redundant and/or contradictory, chaotic, and its no one's fault-its the nature of the subject-getting a handle on the understanding of a virus is like trying to hold jello in your hand.

100% wrong.

NYC has over 10,000 people per sq km, you’re comparing them to Canada with 3 people per sq km.

Over 4M people ride the NYC subway every day. That’s 10% of our population of our country, cramped together, all touching the same handrails, etc.

NY State Public Health officials and NYC’s Mayor (All Demonrats) were telling people that it was safe to ride the Subway, go to schools, restaurants etc just last month.

Trump was criticized for shutting down travel from covid hotspots 45 days before our own PM did it.

You’re assigning blame to Trump because you hate Trump and for no other reason.

Trudeau did absolutely nothing at all until he had to shut down our entire economy.

Get a load of this: 10 days ago foreign visitors  could fly here directly from covid central in China, waltz through our crowded airport, get on the skytrain and then go eat at a buffet. Nothing was stopping them. Today I couldn’t go to an outdoor park that’s 20 sq km (Pinecone Burke) because of covid. Retail outlets here are closed. Schools are closed. Our work is down by 75%. My kid can’t play baseball this year. HOW F’N DUMB IS THAT??????????? And in all this time you don’t have a bad thing to say about Trudeau? Your opinion is a totally biased joke.

People here watch CNN and CBC and they hear a litany of ridiculous accusations against Trump, and then they hear Trudeau propaganda on CBC, and they don't engage their BS filter for even a second.

Jan 31 Trump: "Tens of thousand of people in China have coronavirus. It spreads like wildfire and it has a very high hospitalization rate and a high death rate. I am banning people who have been to China in the past 14 days from flying into the US."

Jan 31, CNN: "Trump closed down flights from China - RACIST!"

Idiots, in unison: "Trump is racist, I just heard it on CNN!"

CNN: "Look at the doctors behind Trump rolling their eyes. They think that he has done every thing wrong."

Idiots, in unison: "Look at the doctors behind Trump rolling their eyes. He has done every thing wrong."

Trump: "There's a drug that is widely reported to have had success in the fight against covid. It has been approved by the FDA for over 50 years. It has to go through some more clinical trials to prove it's efficacy against covid, but we think it could be a game-changer."

CNN: "Trump is claiming that Chloroquine is the absolute final solution but it's not tested!!!!! People died because they self medicated and guess whose fault it is!"

Idiots, in unison: "Trump is going against the doctors & science and people are dying because he's so wrong."

Trump: "We are hopeful that the drug trials that are currently underway are successful. We have a goal of starting to get America back up and running at Easter."

CNN: "Trump has stated that he will up the country at Easter, just to save Boeing. Hundreds of thousands of people will die. He's going to kill all the people that fought in WWII, Korea, and even the ones we hate from Viet Nam."

Idiots, in unison: "Trump is choosing corporate America ahead of the lives of Americans. He's killing the veterans. Hundreds of thousands of people will be killed by Trump!!!!!!"

Feb 2, CBC: "Trudeau isn't closing off travel from China and other covid hotspots because it's unnecessary. Trudeau is the best."

Idiots, in unison: "Yeah banning flights is stoopid. Trudeau is the best!"

Trudeau: "The risk here from coronavirus is low. We don't need to do anything."

Idiots, in unison: "We don't need to do anything about covid."

CBC, March 16th: "Trudeau just reiterated that closing off travel from covid hotspots is unnecessary. He says that international travel is a-ok and the risk of covid coming to Canada is still low. He's so dreamy."

Idiots, in unison: "Trudeau is so dreamy."

CBC, 3 days later: "International flights to Canada are banned. The country has so much covid now that it is now closed for business. Schools are closed. Outdoor recreation activities are cancelled. Our economy is basically collapsing, but Trudeau and Morneau have been planning a bailout pkg for a while now (that's literally the only thing that he has done this whole time - plan a spending spree). It's just a hundred billion now, plus unlimited spending for 6 months. Trudeau is saving us all."

Idiots, in unison: "Trudeau is right, banning international travel is suddenly important today. He's the best. He is definitely saving us all. PLEASE TAKE ALL OUR MONEY. OUR CHILDREN WILL BE HAPPY TO LIVE IN POVERTY UNDER THE GREAT LIBERAL DREAM TEAM!!!"

If you took the name Trump out, above, and wrote in Obama, what would CNN say? Would it still be racist to ban covid flights from entering the country? If you took out Trudeau, and wrote Harper in there, would the idiots above still say that Harper's "Risk from covid is low here" comment was just peachy?

Someone must have read Trump the riot act over the weekend.

He goes from wanting the country re-opened for Easter to saying it'd be a success if the US only experienced 100,000 deaths!!!!!

Talk about setting a ridiculously high bar to setting an incredibly low bar.

It's smart. See what's happening in Italy?

Want hundreds of people to be dying every single day in Canada?

Fear mongering bull shit. Proper hygiene and testing prevent some deaths, house arrest will not, it  may delay  certain  kinds of transmissions but eventually they come. Delaying death and preventing death are not the same thing. Prevention of death depends on medical treatments.

Italy had a high concentration of elderly, many smokers, in condensed areas.

Lack of early testing and pandemic protocols were the problems. House arrest was not the issue and us not the cure.  It's a symptomatic stop gap reaction until thd other wo can be properly implemented.

Trump remains correct. The economy can not be locked down as long as some politicians want, i.e..,6 months.

Scapegoating him because he does not spoon feed is ridiculous. He is not the issue implementing early testing is.

In a stark shift from two weeks of measured optimism, the president said his guidelines for Americans to practice “social distancing” would remain in place until at least April 30, and he warned that 100,000 or more people may die. In an address, he said that if the death toll is kept to 100,000, it could be classified as a “very good job.”

He said in a Rose Garden news conference that he hoped the country would reach “the bottom of the hill” by June 1 — “could even be sooner, could be a little bit later.”

So if only 85,000 people die. It's a win for Trump.

I'm not sure what you mean.  There are various projections, based on current data.  Accurate projections can't be made without real, on the ground data.  You're letting your hatred get in the way of things again.

You're right accurate projections can't be made. So WTF is Trump constantly making proclamations on BS.

On Saturday he accused hospitals of hoarding masks.

Accurate projections can be made once real-time data has been available for a while.  Which it has, especially in New York.  Hence, up to date projections.

Regardless that may very well be what have to do.  We're like the stranded astronaut in the movie The Martian we're going to have to science the shit out of this.

No need for a space suit, it's not gas, it's spray.  What you need is a spray guard, doesn't have to be an N95 mask, just needs to cover your face and eyes if someone coughs/sneezes

Any mask will do, any sunglasses will do
