Nope....U.S. and Canada have agreed to keep the border closed....STAY...IN...CANADA.

Why is staying in Canada so bad ?

The U.S. border is very important to some Canadians, and they never want it closed because it means loss of access to many things not available in Canada.

Now it is closed...deal with it.

You seem to be under the impression people are complaining.  We are happy no one from your covide-infested shithole is coming here. You are in the worst place on the planet to be right now. We are rejoicing you aren't allowed here anymore. And no one wants to go there.

Yes, acknowledging basic facts about China’s role in the global pandemic is “starting a war”.  Do your arms ever get tired from all the water you carry for them?

You haven't said a basic fact in years.

It's your POTUS that brought opening the border up. Not us.

Fortunately Trudeau shut the door on that request. I don't think they U.S. will be successful in getting Canada to agree to a reopening for some time...no matter how much they beg.

Wrong again....

Except for 3M masks crossing the border....lots of Canadian begging for those.

I think we just got a shitload of masks from China. But one article that states the reality that some people on both sides are experiencing hardships because the border is closed doesn't mean we want to open it. That's a pretty weak attempt, even by your standards. Haven't you been following? Your president expressed a desire to open it soon, but Trudeau, being the sane, rational leader he is, rejected his pleas outright.

There was no door to be shut.  The request wasn’t for immediate opening of the border.  You’re really having a tough time with facts this afternoon.

I didn't say it was. That's just your poor reading comprehension getting you in trouble again.

We want to see this virus beat in the US, Canada, and everywhere.  The border will reopen when appropriate.  We should be helping all the hotspots, especially our neighbouring states.  Where we have spare capacity, we should help.  Who doesn’t want to see business roar back?  Just have to get the timing right for different regions.

Agreed, but it should not happen until new screening protocols are put in place.    Travel from hot zones will need to be restricted far sooner and effectively.

The U.S. border changed drastically after 9/11, and it will likely change again.   Canada can make its own decisions.

Each country (and province and state) should be in control of its own borders.  Ontario needs to be wary of Quebec, New York State, and Michigan.  Manitoba needs to be wary of Ontario, though it borders a very rural and sparsely populated part of Ontario.  Certain cities/municipalities are also hot zones.  Obviously the strictest shutdowns are in the hottest zones, which are reopened last.  I think social distancing and smaller groupings will be around for a while.  We all want the same thing, so let’s get the resources where they’re needed.  I’m hoping by mid-May we see some opening up.

I'm thinking longer term....the international travel free-for-all will have to be reigned in with screenings, restrictions, and surveillance testing.   Trump predicted the future with more travel bans for entirely different reasons.

Lock down travel from any hotspot nation, including the United States.

Canada is already moving on this....

Please keep on acknowledging that too.  The more we look the more it becomes apparent just how subject and vulnerable the entire human race is to the self-interest of a mere handful of people.  You've carried water for this divine privileged right since forever.

Yep.  It’s nice to see that lefties now understand the importance of properly enforced borders.

I agree that travel lockdowns of affected areas of future novel disease will have to be a matter of course. Can't be afraid of offending anyone. Hopefully that'll be a lesson learned going forward.

I think that screening was proven to be somewhere between slightly effective and useless by the fact that asymptomatic covid carriers are contagious for 48 hrs or more.

I think the most drastic changes coming on planet earth will be to the NYC subway system, and if they're not then someone isn't doing their job.

Understanding being the oft missing ingredient in discussions with you people.  We need to agree on what proper enforcement means.  If Trump's travel bans for airplanes for example are the standard you subscribe to then proper enforcement could just as easily mean supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

When I think of the word travel ban for airplanes I think it pretty much means turn around or....

US .Army surface-to-air Missile Defence (SAM) MIM-104 Patriot ...

Those with immunity can get back to work and public life right away, so the sooner we determine who has immunity the faster we can rebuild the economy.  For everyone else it will have to be a very carefully staged return that may not get back to full capacity for a long time.

Next up people will want to get the virus so they can be immune and go back to work, but there will be a shortage because we did too good a job in social distancing.

Well that’s the harsh medicine approach, but any jurisdictions that take that approach will have to work hard to protect the vulnerable, and it will still be a lottery because it does attack some young people without health conditions.  Nevertheless, at some point we may have no choice but to take that risk, betting on our treatments, health care, and social distancing in the workplace.  Hopefully a vaccine comes sooner than later.  No guarantee of that.

If you want to get your virus response right, just make sure you hire the best people and put them in charge.

Which is why the guy appointed to coordinate the US government response was a 37 year old labradoodle breeder with no health care or medical experience.

More fake news.  The person in charge of the response is from the military.  It's Admiral Polowczyk.  Here's the entire task force, just in case you're unaware.

I know you hate Trump, but you gotta stop falling for every fake news story that comes down the pike.

Did you not even read the cite? You're giving me a cite about the white house task force. The story is about the Health and Human Services department. The CDC is under their umbrella, as is the FDA. The White House might develop policy, but these are the people who implement it, and in many cases are the ones giving recommendations to the white house as to what policy they ought to have.
