Here in Finland the southern part of the country in which I live also has been separated from the rest of the country because the virus is more prevalent here and such a measure is taken to protect the rest of the country.

In the past few days many people here have escaped to their second homes in the rest of the country because they think they are safer there, which is the ultimate show of selfishness as those more remote areas don't have the health resources to cope with a large amount of people falling ill.

A 48 year old Loblaws employee in Oshawa has dropped dead of the Covfefe

A buddy of mine says a guy he used to work with in Milton has dropped dead of it, at 51

I told my buddy earlier to get down in his bunker, he didn't take me seriously, but he's doing it now

Enjoy the Staycation while it lasts

Sounds familiar, TSS.  I live in a rural area in northern BC and our health resources are minimal at best.  The population of our specific area is 20,000 souls and we have but 64 acute care beds in our small hospital.  Other communities don't even have a hospital.  Lately we've seen many people from the Lower Mainland coming up early to open their cottages.  The CRD (a local form of government) had to enact regulations that will force these people to a 14-day quarantine and they are to come prepared for the duration - no stopping to shop or visit.  Straight to your cabin and stay their until the self-isolation period is up.  We are all hoping that they will do just that.

Same phenomena occurred in Italy and everyone headed South.  It's naive to think when you want to put everyone under house arrest this shit does not happen. Hang in there. Remember I am a Montreal Canadiens fanatic and we are depending heavily on some young Finns we drafted.

I kind of sympathize. If I had a nice cottage why not go tyere to die. I threw the  last two words in. I am a tad melodramatic. Too much sugar in my coffee. Some of this I think though makes sense. Why not if you have the cottage. You got some beautiful places there Mo. When  I grew up in Montreal it was easy to have and drive to your cottage. I miss it in Trunteh. It's so expensive in Toronto to also have a cottage.

Once the 'general' population grows weary of the fear porn cycle change will come.

They hopefully will stop clicking/watching/listening, and slowly the synapses will fire-up, 2+2 will no longer equal 1 000 000.

The government is not inept (bumbling around, trying their best), they have plans in place and are following these protocols.

How else to explain their actions in the face of all available data (actual numbers, not buzzwords and 'possibilities', coupled with leading countries' responses)?

We have allowed ourselves to be hypnotized, very few have the capacity to think critically in this fog of now dubbed 'war'.

Who questions why a computer social network company even has 720 000 masks laying around to donate, or a church 'finds' a stash of 5 000 in its church to donate,

they see the number + the product = bodies rotting in the streets, save us from ourselves.

Why France is hiding a cheap and tested virus cure

Quote

On Wednesday, commenting on the new government guidelines, Raoult said, “When damage to the lungs is too important, and patients arrive for reanimation, they practically do not harbor viruses in their bodies any more. It’s too late to treat them with chloroquine. Are these the only cases – the very serious cases – that will be treated with chloroquine under the new directive by [French Health Minister] Veran?” If so, he added ironically, “then they will be able to say with scientific certainty that chloroquine does not work.”

No statistical evidence for corona epidemic – infected numbers primarily dependent on number of tests, death rate of sampling

Quote

The death rate of people shown to be infected with SARS-CoV-2 is effectively nothing more than a house number. Differences in the death rate of a factor of 10 between Washington and New York indicate massive differences in sampling and measurements, and increasingly raise doubts about the scientific resilience of the data.

As Boris Johnson and another member of his Cabinet have tested positive it kind of makes one think is it really in this day and age necessary to run a government of people gathering around some one table or do you need any parliament of people showing up in person in one particular building possibly after having travelled very long journeys in order to arrive at that building?

With today's technology you could really have video-meetings of governments or parliaments.

It's not the same as meeting face to face.

It was weird an article said something along the lines of that the other members don't need to be tested because of Boris Johnson testing positive, unless it just happens Mr. Johnson didn't meet with any of them in the previous week or two.

"Why not if you have a cottage?"  As symptoms don't show up right away, it is easy for people to think..........'oh I'll just go up to the cottage and get away from heavily infected areas'.  Trouble is if they do come down with the virus, we DO NOT have the facilities to manage our own, let alone those from away.  It is really just that simple.  Don't further burden a system that is barely able to take care of it's own citizens at the best of times.

Aside from people venturing out for supplies or to work I wonder how many are simply just trying to get back home to where they feel safest? Kids and grandkids, maybe they're scared or maybe their financial resources have dwindled. It's getting complicated and some are undoubtedly returning to their roots because they don't know what else to do.

We heard that the natives are shutting down the gas stations and smoke shops out here, because of the Cornovirus. The got word that a terrible disease has afflicted the white man, and want to ensure it does not make it into their community. I think by law they have the right to close off their borders to all Canadians. And I've been through there, they have everything they need in there, a sustainable community with their own supply networks, connections across Canada and across the border without restriction.

Also heard rumours there was another train derailment on Friday, but the Cornovirus is so all-consuming in every media venue, every section of the news it's hard to find out what else is happening in the real world. I presume it is still there... hello Matrix. Hello Holodeck, off. Arch. Arch.

They're not safe if they bring the bug in the house.

I see a lot of people are using half measures

Half measures are a false sense of security

The bug doesn't kill everybody, but it kills at random

Random? Random is the illusion produced from not understanding a pattern. Ask any expert on blood splash. I love fractal theory.

That's why you wash your hands and don't touch anyone.

But even then, what about all the groceries you buy? What about anything that's delivered.

You can go crazy thinking about all the ways you may get the virus.

Prior to the virus it was called hypochondria and a symptom of obsessive compulsive disorder. It literally drove Howard Hughes crazy. Now it's called expected responsible social behaviour, proving how political mental illness diagnoses can be depending on the prevailing moral views.

My wife normally keeps a very large inventory of food in freezers and storage room (I never could figure out why, but some things you are just better off not to ask) so we are good for probably a month.   Clearing freezers as we go, lots left (2nd week for us now).  Big Kid brings us milk and groceries we have ordered.   Packaged stuff is just left outside for 3 days if it won't freeze or thaw.   Milk, for instance, is put onto dissinfection pad and wiped down with isopropyl alcohol and left to air dry for a while, then into fridge.  Issue I have is realizing that we are still in relatively low risk level, trying to get inventories high enough to go through an entire month of TOTAL isolation when things get really bad (which they will in a few weeks).

#1 son-in-law is a firefighter/EMT and I am on emergency callout 24x7 so chances are quite high that we may have to isolate away from home, but I have an empty condo that does not share any air handling with building and we will use that if need be.  Our youngest is a veterinary ER/trauma surgeon in only 24 hour ER in her region, so she is extremely exposed.  They are finding it difficult to keep PPE in sufficient supply, but so far, so good.

It may drive you crazy, but a high level of vigilance might well keep you alive.  Not paranoia, but not complacency.   Needs some kind of balance.

Has anyone ever proven you can get infected with the flu or anything else through the common air vents in an apartment building pumping air from a neighboring unit? Because even in Asian countries where people are told to wear masks outside, no country suggests they wear them inside, even though most live in apartments.

The groceries are not the threat, it's not dangerous to eat, it's only dangerous if you inhale it or rub it in your eyes

Very unlikely you are going to catch it from something you bought, it's going to be from another person or people

The people are the vector, there are people who don't have symptoms who are spreading it like zombies

Your food is fine,  you're not going to get it from the food

Which, for at least the next two months, large public gatherings are probably going to be banned.
