China screws us, we help them, they screw us again

Our government sent 16 tons of protective equipment to a hostile country and then we quickly started having shortages of protective equipment for our citizens, including healthcare professionals.  This decision could lead to the deaths of Canadians, and could have already.  No I'm not going to shut-up about it, it's kind of a big deal.

Seems like a picayune deal that will rate a footnote in some dusty document lost in the Brobdingnagian sized library of official inquiries this generates.

- In July 2019, China steals our infectious disease secrets at our National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg:  https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/chinese-researcher-escorted-from-infectious-disease-lab-amid-rcmp-investigation-1.5211567

- January 25th 2020, the first case of a Canadian with COVID-19 is identified. His test is sent to the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg for confirmation, the same lab the above secrets were stolen by China.

- On Feb. 9th, announced by Global Affairs Canada:  "To support China’s ongoing response to the outbreak, Canada has deployed approximately 16 tonnes of personal protective equipment, such as clothing, face shields, masks, goggles and gloves to the country since February 4, 2020":   https://www.canada.ca/en/global-affairs/news/2020/02/canada-supports-chinas-ongoing-response-to-novel-coronavirus-outbreak.html

- Since then, China has returned the favour by hoarding all of the masks its factories manufacture.  China accounts for half of all mask production worldwide:  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/13/business/masks-china-coronavirus.html

Now Canada has a mask shortage, our healthcare workers need them.  What kind of idiot naive government does this?  François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, should be forced to resign.

I don't get why China is the first ones to be blame. I can't stand China, but the first ones we should be blaming is ourselves.

Is Canada so broke, that we can't even afford to manufacture our own face masks?

How much does it cost to produce them? If anything we should be pissed off with our federal government, and hold them accountable for not having a domestic supply of masks.

If we overly depend on China, we deserve all the Karma in the world. Let's reduce our business with them, and build factories in the remote communities that need jobs.

You need to pass on these ideas, to you're friends and family... so the politicians know, they will be a massive price to pay, if we continue to de-industrialize our great country.

It's cheaper to make things in China, but it's for more expensive to have the stock market crash, and supply shortages during a national emergency.

It's time for we the people, to show government who's boss. Lets get in their faces, and demand answers.

When are we going to wake up to the face that globalism is a scam? We should feel ashamed and embarrassed at the fact that these poor farmers from 100 years ago, we able to get masks. And we as Canadians can't get them.... Because our country doesn't even make them. How can people be better prepared 100 years ago? Mankind if going backwards

China does not give help to any other country without strings attached and dark ulterior motives. H1N1 came from China. SARS came from China.Bird flu came from China.

Does anyone see a pattern here?

Unfortunately,I can't see much changing in the future after this latest virus(China) runs it's course. Wet markets will continue to operate, cheap, poor quality goods will continue to flow from China to the developed world. Business as usual.

A prophetic article from 2017:

Western governments are full of short-term thinkers. They have little imagination or vision, and care only for the current election cycle. Whatever happens beyond the next election is of no importance to them. Planning for the future? Nope. Not unless doing so gets them some kind of electoral credits. Stock up on stuff for the future? Where are the votes in that? This is the way politicians think.  What might or might not happen down the road is someone else's problem, unless they get re-elected. Then they'll deal with it - if it might affect their re-election chances in the following election. There are no leaders or visionaries in Canadian politics.

Yes, there's barely a government or a leader on the planet that doesn't attach sneaky little strings to everything they do.  How do you think we came to be tied so closely to the dictates of China's economy in the 1st place?

Is it fair to say you also spent the last 3 decades LYAO and rolling your eye's at anyone that questioned the wisdom of the unregulated globalisation that's brought the whole world to this point?

It's sorta funny watching this wokeness finally dawning on people.  Gallows humour I guess.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you also rolled your eye's and LYAO whenever I suggested we should be monitoring our governments the way they're monitoring us to try and prevent them from cocking things up so badly.

Some people thought I was always actually talking about attacking free speech, how fucking retarded is that?  Do people really believe an attack on our betters is equal to an attack on us all?

"Escaped".

This virus helped the Chinese government get rid of some octogenarians (remember they were getting rid of unwanted babies just a decade ago), it's helping to destroy the economies of America and Canada, and it helped China to get the MSM of America to share their Chinese government propaganda.

If the virus escaped it was extremely fortuitous for China. I bet they wish that they thought of it themselves.

I'm not blaming China in this instance they're a sovereign country and can do as they please.  Our government is made up of naive fools.  They see the good in everyone and ignore the bad. Not everyone has good intentions.

Bleeding heart liberals have good intentions but need to open their eyes.

No, Xi Jinping has taken a huge hit, he's a populist,  his popularity went from all time high to all time low

He wouldn't have shot himself in the foot

If it was sabotage, it wasn't Beijing, it would be someone in China trying to take Xi Jinping down

China is actually in the throws of a shadow civil war

Xi Jinping has seized and is consolidating power as Chinese Stalin

He has many enemies, both inside and  outside of the Communist Party

Theories abound.

I think there's a 1% chance that we ever know the truth about how the virus got out.

What did they know on the Simpsons back in '93?

Just passing the time in the Great Staycation

But with armed robberies on the street in Oakville and a cop attacked on the street in York, that's close enough for me to break out the SOCOM 18 now

So this war just gets better & better as it goes

Oorah

Nice to see someone is actually looking to take China to task for its behaviour - unlike Canada.

Boris Johnson's government is reportedly furious with China's handling of the coronavirus, with UK officials quoted on Sunday warning that Beijing faces a "reckoning" once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

UK government officials believe China is spreading disinformation about the severity of the coronavirus outbreak in its country, the Mail on Sunday reports.

The newspaper says scientists have warned Johnson that China could have downplayed  its number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus "by a factor of 15 to 40 times." China had reported 81,439 cases at the time of writing.
