Which war ?    Ask the Europeans why they started.

But not Quebec.

Precisely.

Americans are like Lutheran Swedes. Practical, you avoid involvement - in small groups.

We Canadians are Roman Catholic. We follow instructions - in small groups.

And in this case, we survive/die and your old people die/survive.

Quebec = Roman Catholic "Zombies" during WW2

They survived too.

Americans survived the hot summer of 2003.....75,000 old Europeans didn't.

Canada = Roman Catholic

Joe Clark? RC.

Brian Mulroney? RC

John Turner? RC.

It is hard in Canada to become a federal PM unless you are Roman Catholic.

America? Only one, single, unique RC president : JFK - among 40 or so.

======

But here's my general take on all this:

It is not whether Black people vote for a Black guy, a Roman Catholic for a Protestant.

My take? When given the choice- people vote for the other guy, someone other than their "identity".

In federal Canada,, we've been doing this since 1892 when Thompson became our federal PM. (No one knows the name.)

Heck, the first PM of Ontario was Roman Catholic.

=====

If Joe Biden becomes a US President, he will be the second Catholic president. Our first Catholic PM dates from 1892.

Joe Biden will need (Black) Protestant votes to win....and atheists.   Catholics are split between Biden and Trump.

Why is this an issue particular to the US?

How do you feel it is different?

IMHO it looks like the same old 'no unity' business as usual, since Ebola in 2014-'16 (regarding Republicans unfair to Obama) and also since 2017 when Trump took his oath.  Especially if you do experience any of the USA's big 4 tv networks or Sirius XM, it becomes very obvious how this is all about a power grab and it is not about uniting their country to defeat the pandemic.

It's sad too, to see the U.S. President feel boxed-in to giving a live daily briefing, to the world, about what he and his Task Force do each day to combat the pandemic.

And it's all because the liberal Dem's tv networks are politicizing the Coronavirus, instead of uniting the country to defeat the virus.

Even the processes of that stimulus pkg their GOVT just passed, displayed the USA's treachery toward its own citizens if you honestly gauge the Dem's earmarks which held the bill up for the past week. Just look at the many things in the bill which Pelosi/Schumer tried to require altho they have nothing to do with the pandemic but everything to do with future 'politrix' if you will.

How about since the 1990s ?

Using Breitbart as a source is all we need to know about how much you value unity.  Please don't post here, thanks.

I apologize, if you dislike where the truth/the facts come from.  And as far as me not posting here? Too late for that.  Especially, if it caused you to decide that now truths/facts should not be acknowledged ---whenever we don't like where the truth/the facts came from. And perhaps .......... Don't reply to my posts? That might make things a little easier for you here in a public forum.

And if you disregard those Breitbart links, that is okay too, but hey you'll get the same concept of reality from the Twitter link I posted there as well ---tweets by U.S. Senator Tom Cotton.

1. No, you are quoting bullshit sites.  There are enough real conservative sources, and Canadian ones.

2. Not too late to leave.

Mit Romney was defeated because the Evangelical Christian network that would have put him over the top and defeated Obama abandon him since he was a Mormon.  In hind sight I am not sure if there would have been that big a difference between Romney and Obama, I do not know but it was a fascinating example of how religion does impact. Obama as well had good planning knowing Romney would be deserted and he himself had planners use the inter-net in an unprecedented manner to mobilize black America to come out in record highs and vote.

Trump is an interesting phenomena. One could argue from a purely religious perspective he is a classic hedonist, i.e., Satanist although I do note interestingly since the outbreak of the virus he no longer uses the ok signal when he talks-rumoured to be his illuminati 666 hand signal. Anyone else notice. It just vanished. He went from using it constantly every 3 seconds to zero use of it.

Biden's Catholicism I do not think will be a factor anymore than Trump's hedonism. In all itents and purposes  US politics is Godless and The House of Reps and Senate are Sodom and Gomorah ruled over by Donald. Biden is just a disgruntled displaced demon who wants the throne Obama once had and Donny now has. That throne is illusionary. Who the real Satan is and where her or his throne is, is anyone's guess. I know but I am sworn to secrecy. All I can tell you is the throne is porcelain.

More proof of the anti-United way of politics in the States, which prefaced the COVID 19 disunity we see now, was at their SOTU Address  Trump gave.  It was televised in many nations that day, so potentially billions of people got to see the disrespect/disunity which one party has, for the other.

Yes many countries including the USA's insurgent foes/terrorist cells, got to see up close and personal the trifling behavior of Nancy Pelosi in representing the Dem party:

And to further sow the seeds of, disunity, the irresponsible network CNN exalted Pelosi for her juvenile delinquent behavior.

Over 200 deaths again today. YIKES!!!

Gotta wonder if Americans see this as more of a Big City/New York problem, or a National problem.

At some point it will start to hit home.  Already some very well-known artists have been hit with this, and soon your neighbourhood too.  Please stay safe everyone.

I am serious is that a first world perspective? Far more people die in the world  from, malnutrition and  diaheria from poor health conditions and dirty water.

I am saying 200 is relative to what your reality is. You can be scared of it or put it in perspective and realize it could have been higher and that 200 came while thousands more recovered.

Doesn't make it meaningless one is too many but we are gonna have to learn to do what many do and have done.. look death in the face and keep functioning. It's possible. Ask survivors of wars, torture, the holocaust, people in refugee camps...at times like these we need to read their stories of how they survived.

True, but for different reasons.

Americans already went through this drill with Hurricane Katrina, exposing the weaknesses and politics of local vs. state vs. federal responsibility and control.

In 2005, Mayor Ray Nagin had more than enough local resources to evacuate New Orleans residents but failed to use them, asking for the governor and feds to do it after the crisis worsened.

Bus_yard-rotate.jpg

The U.S. system is designed to be bottom up, with local perspective and control that requests resources from the state and Feds with coordination.

The governor of Florida said it yesterday when he explained that he wouldn't ask Trump to do his job.

Well it ended as close to 500.

Almost 300 today.

This is above and beyond death by "conventional" means as this virus is brand new.

I think the idea that this, so far, has ravaged first world economies is more jarring. We simply haven't seen a disease take control of first world nations since the 2018 Spanish Flu.

Rue, blah-blah-blah.

You miss my basic point.

Canada is a civilised country because people from the majority (however defined) are willing to vote for someone from the minority (however defined).

We did it in 1892 when Protestants chose Thompson (a Roman Catholic) as leader, then Prime Minister.

We did it in 2008 when Quebecers chose Harper (an anglophone)  when offered a a francophone alternative.

Yes, in 1860 it appears that the South worked better together ---at the huge task of hating Black people.  Which is why the South lost, and the US Slave Trade ended in 1863.

This pandemic does not separate along racial lines, this pandemic has no regard for skin color.  Nonetheless the Dems have shown that they have no plans, on working together. The way the Dems have politicized the USA fight against the pandemic, is scary, plus it makes you wonder about repercussions that Canada will have to deal with.
