The topic is Trump defunding the WHO...try to focus.

Try pissing off...the topic includes a variety of scenarios and requests for reasons why we chose one over another.

It's not my fault the OP left a question for which an opinion was bound to trigger you.

This is probably the most energy invested into a MLW forum poll to date.    Well done ! I voted for defunding regardless of Trump, as the WHO needed to be reformed many years ago. Mod will p

Trump is right: Defund the WHO

The WHO’s mistakes were not isolated, nor were they few. They began in January, when the WHO downplayed the risk of the coronavirus and foolishly repeated the Chinese Communist Party’s numbers as fact. The WHO then misled the public to believe that the coronavirus could not spread via human-to-human contact. Shortly thereafter, the WHO publicly refused to acknowledge scientific data from Taiwan simply because China does not view Taiwan as a legitimate country. After that, the organization railed against international travel bans, condemning and recommending against them as late as February 29 — an unjustifiable and shockingly late application of political correctness to salve the feelings of the mainland Chinese dictatorial regime that had supported and helped elect WHO's current president.

I know a woman who actually does strip naked and toss her clothes into the washer and herself into the shower after she's been out.  People are  scared (I am, but I try to be reasonable about it), whether it's actually warranted or not.  For me, it's the government response that is most concerning - governments don't lightly shut down or slow down the economy so it seems to me that not controlling the virus looks more dangerous to them, economically and politically (cause dead people on your watch isn't good).

It just seems they're forever playing catch up and just when they think they're closing in on something they come up with a new precaution and reasons for it.  I get that but I just can't shake the feeling they're more interested in making up for the bygone opportunities for preparedness they forgot or misplaced on the way here.

No, this is bullshit that serves two purposes:

1. deflecting blame from Trump failure.

2. finding reasons to launch economic warfare and likely real warfare later against China, to try to prevent them from de-linking from the US trade zone and US Dollar.

It is not "bullshit"...Trump has defunded the WHO, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Trudeau and Canada can cough up the $500 million CAD per year to kiss China's ass and get a UNSC seat.

Good luck with that.....

The real war will be to clinch the election in November assuming the war isn't used to justify suspending the election in the first place.

Many Americans are getting worried that Trump will not relinquish power voluntarily, even if he does lose an election.

Still, I can't imagine the Democrat Party put Biden up front if they were really trying to stop Trump.

Only thing that stops Trump now will be one-too-many cheeseburgers or if he gets accidentally shot by one of secret service agents!

The question I've wanted answered here is: what is Trump or anyone else in US Gov going to put in place to replace the functions of the World Health Organization? Or do they just not give a shit about consequences of their actions?

Just don't give a chit....Canada donated far less money so how important can it be ?

The USA is not the UN's sugar daddy.

No I'm actually pointing to real news stories as opposed to the string and post-it note shitstorms you subscribe to.  These sources and others (Forbes for example) contradict everything Trump and you have said about the W.H.O.'s with-holding more than it knew about this pandemic starting on Dec 31st.

Notwithstanding your disdain for real news sources then perhaps you could explain something else.  If the US knew the W.H.O. was as corrupt and compromised as you're saying long before this pandemic broke out how is that so many Americans at W.H.O. weren't on a constant look out for indications it was lying and with-holding information, how did they miss something so critically important?  Are you suggesting its a lie that there were any Americans at the W.H.O. or that they were incompetent or that they deliberately looked away or something?

The fact there were so many Americans at the W.H.O. is a really humongous fly in your ointment that you and your ilk seem to be unable or unwilling to acknowledge or adrdress so instead you choose to come unglued.

The WHO gave an alarming amount of advice that was all 100% wrong, aiding in the quick spread of the virus globally, costing far too many lives. Trump took the necessary course of action. This investigation is into gross incompetence.

Hopefully this investigation will be examining the competence of all the American's from Trump's administration that were embedded at the W.H.O. when it was aiding the viruses spread.

It stands to reason the biggest contributor to the WHO at the time would insist its personnel be close enough to the top of the chain of WHO command it could catch it in the act of something so diabolical.  After all Trump knew that he couldn't trust the WHO right?

They're extremely stupid eyeball. Extremely.

Their theory goes:

1) The WHO was a-ok for saying that banning int'l travel was just racist after they had all that time to study what was going on

2) the WHO was a-ok for saying that masks were bad after decades of studying viruses, and knowing that hospital workers and virologists always wear masks because.....[guess why LtR]

3) the WHO was a-ok for saying that H2H wasn't happening after they had all that time to study what was going on

4) Your idiot rags want to say that there was somehow enough info to come to the conclusion that there was potential for a cataclysmic pandemic, (when there was no H2H, there was  no need for banning travel, wearing masks was a bad idea)?

5) Your idiot rags want to dump on Trump and say that he was wrong despite the fact that Trump knew enough to keep the sick people where they were. Anyone who thinks that people from Wuhan should just be able to fly out into the world is as dumb as people who believe that they shouldn't have to be quarantined if they have covid. EXTREME IDIOTS. Like dumber than a sack of hammers. Like, only Trudeau voters and Dem voters could possibly be stupid enough to believe it.

If Trump was the one saying that masks were bad, and H2H wasn't happening, and quarantines were a bad idea, you'd be saying that Trump was a total idiot. Not because you would have figured it out for yourself, but because WashPo would be saying it (they'd suddenly be telling the truth for once) and you'd be regurgitating it, just like you're regurgitating their current idiocy.

Nothing that you say really matters eyeball because you haven't made a valid point in a really long time. Sorry dude, but you really need to think before you just belch out WashPo propaganda.

If the WHO was in America's pocket then why were they belching out Communist Party of China talking points?

Do you think that Americans in the WHO gave out bad advice because they wanted covid to get into the USA?

Do you think that everyone who's currently representing the US anywhere in the world right now was appointed by the Trump Whitehouse?

Do you know the history of how Tedros came to his position in the WHO?

Hopefully this investigation finds the actual culprits and holds them truly accountable for the bad advice that they gave and the damage that it caused. I don't give a rip who they are.

If the WHO/China/Tedros actually wanted the virus to spread, what would they have done differently? Nothing.

If Trump wanted the virus to spread, why didn't he just follow the WHO's advice?

What sort of safeguards would you feel are appropriate if you gave $500 million of your's to someone you couldn't trust?

Saying you wouldn't give it in the first place doesn't count in this case - I have to say that because if I didn't you would to try to weasel out of simply answering the question in its original form.  Again it's not my fault you invited reasons for the questions you asked in the OP.  You need to give more thought to the questions your questions naturally lead to.

China picked Tedros. He was their guy from long before this started. That’s old news. The UN and all associated entities are a farce.

China didn’t let a lot of people in, and those who got in faced communist -style control over where they could go and what they could see.

Tedros himself met with Xi. Tedros gave the WHO’s message to the world. It was a recipe for spreading a pandemic with no redeeming qualities.

Idiots, TDS victims and CNN sycophants around the world blindly accept that Tedros was giving the best advice possible at the time.

I don’t let that crowd influence my decision making process. I make fun if them. That’s it.

That’s why governments who follow that kind of paranoid reasoning will likely see the worst outbreaks.  Complaining about recommendations that you didn’t follow is like blaming your teacher because you didn’t study for a test and failed it. The WHO recommendations were based on what was known at the time.  Not accepting WHO test kits was a mistake of US federal health policy.  Not implementing strong, clear national health policy sooner is also part of this.

Closing down wet markets and giving China a public drubbing over the attempt to downplay the virus early on is important. We’ve seen similar issues in the US navy.  Cover ups are bad and China needs to be held accountable for its bad behaviour.

The WHO was part of the solution in explaining the virus to the world and helping countries develop and implement public health policy to fight it. Without that hundreds of thousands, if not millions, could have died.  The first warnings about future surges and important international data on testing and cases has come from the WHO.  Defunding it is irresponsible beyond belief.  But go ahead anti-globalist conspiracy theorists, climb into your bunker with your weapons and trust no one accept America First politicians, because those politicians have one of the worst outbreaks within their nation.

Epic fail dude. You literally have no clue what is going on.

The WHO gave THE WORST ADVICE POSSIBLE to the entire world. Are you disputing that?

The topic is: should they be defunded, pending the result of an investigation into why they gave multiple instances of the worst advice, all of which would give an extreme boost to the spread of the virus? Do you get it?

Answer this Zeitgeist: IF THE WHO WANTED TO SPREAD THE PANDEMIC AS FAR AND WIDE AS POSSIBLE, WHAT WOULD THEY HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY?

If your answer is "Not much", then you are acknowledging that an investigation is in order. But I'd love to see your answer.

With Trump's administration officials embedded in the WHO while this was happening. You figure these Americans were just there as janitorial staff or something?

Yes, which is why Trump knows that the WHO is corrupt and in need of reform.   The best way to get its attention is the Trump way....cut off the U.S. funding.

The WHO refuses to include Israel as a Middle Eastern nation, grouping it instead with Europe.
