New vaccine for Covid.19

Pfizer and BioNTech still benefited from Trump's Operation Warp Speed because of testing in the U.S., manufacturing orders, and distribution planning.....about $1.95 BILLION worth for all vaccine players.

Your suggestion that the testing was done in the US as you've stated above is misleading since it gives the reader the impression that you are only focussing on drug trial in the US!

Never said it was only tested in the U.S.

Trump has been criticized for his response to COVID, so it's only fair play to recognize the vaccine progress made on his watch.

Look...y'all want to give Biden the credit for 'making a vaccine'.  I guarantee neither he nor Trump spent one second 'making a vaccine'.

It would have been panned as another Trump gimmick before the election.

Nope...testing was done in the U.S.

Do you deny that testing was done in the U.S. ?

Canada got in line very late in the game to place orders for vaccine doses it cannot manufacture in sufficient quantity domestically.

Way to go....Trudeau !

Operation Warp Speed is a bit vague.  Should have called it Operation Arm Jab.

Well luckily there's nothing suspicious at all about the timing of this announcement, less than 2 days after Biden won the election.

Because as we all know, drug companies make big discoveries at 6am on a Monday morning a few hours before most people show up to work and markets open.

If Pfizer wanted to influence the election they would have brought it out last week. And as anyone who knows anything about the pharmaceutical industry and the party positions on regulatory issues would know they would far, far rather have a Trump government than a Biden government. This is a preliminary finding as it is.

The problem with this vaccine is it has to be kept at a deep freeze, minus 80 degrees, or it's no good. So it has to get from the manufacturer, on a truck with a special freezer, to the airport, on planes with a special freezers to various airports, to be transferred to trucks with special freezers to take to warehouses with special freezers, to be sent out on more trucks with special freezers to various pharmacies, doctors offices and hospitals with special freezers. And if someone fails anywhere along the way the stuff is useless, but nobody will be aware of that. That includes the person getting it and the doctor or nurse giving the shot.

Oh, and you have to do it twice, and hope both shipments went through the above supply chain properly and were properly stored.

In the US I understand UPS is going to be doing it. Go online and you'll be able to see many videos of UPS drivers flinging fragile boxes over fences and driving off. Not the most trust organization I know.

This is certainly not going to work in the third world.

According to the article, Trump's warp speed thingy was irrelevant.

According to other articles, Pfizer was part of the $2 billion dollar vaccine deal in July.

Quote

July 22: HHS announced up to $1.95 billion in funds to Pfizer for the large-scale manufacturing and nationwide distribution of 100 million doses of their vaccine candidate. The federal government will own the 100 million doses of vaccine initially produced as a result of this agreement, and Pfizer will deliver the doses in the United States if the product successfully receives FDA EUA or licensure, as outlined in FDA guidance, after completing demonstration of safety and efficacy in a large Phase 3 clinical trial, which began July 27th.

So?

Exactly....so that means the "Trump Administration" has invested in vaccine solutions, manufacturing, and therapeutics.   Hell, Donald Trump himself has been a test subject.

Maybe all those Trump haters in Canada should refuse any vaccines or therapeutics developed partly or in whole by U.S. public and private spending just to show solidarity in their virtue signaling contempt for him.   Oh, and no PPE either !

Stuff yourself,  Cheney.  Trump and his minions lie as much as they breathe.  If Bloomberg says that Germany funded the development of the vaccine, and a Trump administration website claims Trump's program did, I'm believing Bloomberg.

If a reputable company develops a vaccine or treatment, then I'll trust that reputable company, regardless of where they obtained funding, pending additional information.

Currently, I'm not in a hurry to take any vaccine, because rushed medications are prone to unexpected side effects.  I don't really care what the Canadian government thinks.  Unlike you,  I don't believe that the sun rises and sets out of the azz of the current leader of the country.

As for Trump-hating Canadians, plenty of Americans hate Trump too, or perhaps you failed to notice.  And if you had a lick of decency, you'd not be here defending such an immoral shitstain for the past four years.  Other leaders and previous American leaders are irrelevant in the here and now, and your constant insistence that Trump is no worse and no better is laughable at best.

Who you trust is totally irrelevant....the world is clamouring for a COVID vaccine and therapeutics regardless of what you think about Trump or the U.S. government.

Haters gotta hate just to spite Trump.

If so many Americans weren't so arrogant and gullible, Trump would not have succeeded in making the US gov into a laughingstock.

That drug companies continued operations and have potentially developed a safe and effective vaccine isn't because of the Trump Administration, but in spite of it's corruption, chaos and incompetence.

It will be called "The Joe Biden Vaccine"....and comes with free masks !

Biden will try to force Americans to get the vaccine, and it will be game on !

It will be interesting to see the % of Americans who choose to not get the vaccine, i'll bet it will be the highest in the OECD.  I have a feeling cases and deaths in the US may continue long after the vaccine is out because of paranoid stupid people who refuse to get it.  The only thing that will save them are the people who actually get the shot.

The idiots in the US who refuse to wear a mask while believing Trump's conspiracy BS aren't the same people in the US working on the vaccine.  In order to be a scientist you actually have to believe in science and know a little bit about it.

WTF are you talking about?  Canada has reserved doses from companies from all around the world, including companies in Canada.  AstraZeneca is a UK company for instance.

If a US company wins the race we don't owe them any favours or thank-yous because we'll be paying them ridiculous amounts of money to buy doses.  It's a straight business transaction.  If they don't want to give us any doses then whatever, we'll take our billions and give it to someone else.

Are you that insecure about your own country that you keep up this pissing contest for decades?

Yes they will, as they can put temperature indicators in the shipment to show it heated up.

And how sensitive would these indicators be? Would they show if it heated up from -80 to -56?

Why would they rather have a Trump admin?  They can't buy off Trump like they can Biden.

I would assume more people having medical insurance would be good for the drug companies.  People who can afford drugs are buying and taking more of them me thinks.
