Is fear of bees turning us into bad drivers

Recommended Posts

Most of us know what it takes to be a good driver. You need to pay attention to the road, drive at a reasonable speed. Make your intentions known to other drivers, and drive in a predictable manor so other drivers can avoid crossing our path.

Most people also have an aversion to bees. They sometimes will buzz around us making us uncomfortable, worrying about getting stung, which will cause us pain, and in some cases even illness or death.

If you are driving your car, and a bee flies in the window landing on you, that might cause you to pay less attention to your driving, and possibly resulting in a car crash. If this should happen you might blame the bee, but in fact it is your fear of the bee that is largely responsible.

Fear can make us make poor decisions. Under normal conditions if our elected officials told you that they were going to shut down most of our businesses, lock us in our houses and close our schools and hospitals we would consider it a poor idea. Throw a little fear in the mix and we are all falling all over ourselves patting them on the back.

Normally we would value our senior citizens, grateful to them for caring and nurturing us when we were young. Throw in a little fear and we will abandon them, and watch them die of loneliness.

Normally we would be concerned about an accumulated debt of 1.4 trillion dollars. Throw in a little fear and we will watch our government borrow on another 300 billion without letting it bother us. Of course this is only a start. Does anyone think that we will be reducing the debt while spending at an unprecedented level and at the same time destroying our tax base?

Does anyone think that the government measures are preventing people from getting the virus? We have been constantly told that the measures are meant to flatten the curve, and prevent our hospitals from being overwhelmed. Are the hospitals close to being overwhelmed by people with covid? If you check with the center for disease control you will find that there are on average less than 2 covid patients per hospital, and it has never higher than that. The measures are meant to spread the same number of infections over a longer period of time. Does anyone think that time is on our side?

Does anyone think that we can provide the same level of service as our debt rises to 2 trillion and beyond? This could put considerable stress on the system.

Reminds me of a guy I know who was driven his truck with the window open, and a bee flew in, and he knew he was allergic to bees so he freaked out, and tried to get it out of his truck but the truck ended up flipped over, by the side of the road. He was ok, but the bee died.

So clearly we all need to wear beekeepers hats and uniforms, if you want to go in a car. That sounds logico.

Not really. Not much. There's some evidence that you only have as much virus as you are measuring. In other words if there's ten times that actually out there, and you crank up the testing, you get more infections registered in the database.

It's a darn good question. What kind of services will we need? We can provide people but not the equipment and supplies. Imagine a world where the economy has collapsed, production almost halted in every nation on the planet. Whatever production there is will be used regionally first. Oh wait, that's this world already.
