1. You are presenting a defeatist excuse to do nothing when there is a very large problem to solve.

2. Reality is: when you provide subsidies, those given the privilege to exploit it will do so.  True in ag, industry and of course - information.

3. State-owned media ANYWHERE on this planet ranges from a little bit biased (BBC, al Jazeera) to somewhere in the middle (CBC) to the absolute extreme (Pravda...now VGTRK and CCTV - plus most of everything else in China).  Just because we haven't reached the extreme of genuine dictatorships there is no excuse for us to tolerate this half-measure that pukes away tax dollars at a staggering rate.

4. I agree as to the issue of other lobbies being able to control information.   The whole dotcom billionaire into social media information gateways is a perfectly good example.

5. The solution to that has far more to do with how we manage our economy (the economic ability to GET into this position is a result of believing the wealth re-distribution of speculative gain is a legitimate way to manage an economy...and it is very much NOT and results in concentrations of unearned wealth into idle, non-productive - in fact predatory - hands).

1. Defeatist how ?  I simply said that you haven't provided a solution and that selling the CBC doesn't fix it.  I think that there ARE solutions.  I would indeed fund media, but force them to launch low-cost local digital coverage if they're going to take public money.

2. I agree.  I don't know what the alternative is, though, other than what I said in #1.  Your concerns are well founded.

3. I might actually have agreed with your assertion 10 or 20 years ago, but the information void is being filled by toxic players who are funded in order TO PROVIDE DISINFORMATION.  Getting rid of an established source of central information at this time is a bad idea IMO.

4. OMG- YES.  Thank you !  I have been looking for an example that the right can get behind.  Twitter, Facebook, Google and Amazon are what awaits a media landscape owned and controlled by big tech.

5. Well... socialism... but ok.  I find it so strange that the rise of lefty billionaires is making the right demand for constraints on wealth.

Betsy, you are asking fools and mockers to have discernment they simply do not have.  As this thread clearly illustrates, they are only capable of arguing and babbling nonsense.

Chomsky, however, had it right.

This is where the line between "left" and "right" gets very blurry.  Those are most conveniently called "capitalists" and "socialists", but that is not how I see it at all.  In my perfect (but at this time completely theoretic and invisible) world, one would note that those on the "left" are wealth re-distributors while those on the "right" employ capital to create wealth.   Sadly, the mechanisms of capitalism have been taken over by those who worship nothing but greed, and we see capital markets and financial business focusing their great privilege to speculate and re-distribute wealth from speculative gain while ignoring the genuine capitalist function of providing equity to run productive business.   This has happened by allowing financial entities to operate virtually without boundaries and taxation - thus the obliteration of the traditional "left-right" division.  As you may recall, I call this greedy, opportunistic, non-productive and predatory thing "Casino Capitalism" that does little different from the political left where wealth is redistributed according to privilege, not production.

2. Ok.
3. Ok.

Well... I agreed with everything you said but it actually puts Gates, Bezos and Zuckerberg in an even BETTER position because they created something and were really good at what they did.  And now we (you AND ME) are in danger of drifting thread #2 :D

Anyway, I stand by my assertion that we should subsidize media and force them to create digital networks... ie. but also reward existing digital channels and offer incentives to create new ones.

You know what the anchor said?   And, this is what's scary - because this is the mentality that could spring up from this "new era:"  It may not be what you mean, but that's how it was taken."   How is that the lawyer's fault?

CNN knows that no line was crossed, but that doesn't stop them from 'playing' stupid, and breathlessly speculating that "there may be a case!!!!!!!" while they know that there is not.

This is not actually a precedent that they want to have established. Just remember that a lot of Dems said things that 'may have been interpreted as' - "attacks on members of the GOP are warranted/justifiable", before members of the GOP were attacked, unprovoked in their own yard (Rand Paul) or attacked in a mass-shooting (Scalise and others) at a baseball game.

If "may have been interpreted as" was to become a legal standard instead of "a reasonable man would have interpreted it as" (and 'a reasonable man' is a common legal standard) that would give prosecutors a lot of leeway to selectively shift blame whichever way they want.

Eg, a GOP supporter shoots a Dem on Jan 21st 2021. A Dem also supporter shoots a GOPer on Jan 21st 2021.

The prosecutor for both cases is a Dem. He offers the GOP supporter a reduced sentence if he says that "I thought that the GOP was telling me to do it". He takes the offer, now a member of the GOP is implicated.

The same prosecutor offers the Demmie a reduced sentence if she admits to acting on her own and stating that she was unaware of any call to action from any politicians. She accepts, and now the Dem politician is exonerated.

The "may have been interpreted by specific people" standard can never be adopted. It gives a prosecutor/defendant the option of assigning/accepting blame at the prosecutor's discretion, and an appeal to a higher court would not be possible if the defendant's plea is considered the final authority.

Last week on CNN, they showed a clip of a video taken during the siege of the Capitol.  The anchor warned of scary  image of "a black guard being chased by the mob."  Of course, that got my attention.  I was thinking the worse.   So I watched the clip.

What was shown was a lone black guard blocking the mob in the hallway.  The mob were shouting, wanting to proceed - the guard was holding out his hand, gesturing and talking to them.   He was inching and stepping back, and as he stepped back the mob also stepped forward.  He then stepped back up the steps of the stairs, the mob following him.  THERE WAS NO REAL CHASE!  It was a natural movement of a persistent mob (in a situation like this), wanting to go upstairs and proceed.  Finally, the guard just gave up, turned around and semi-walked/run upstairs - he wasn't really running!  The mob walked upstairs too.

Most if not all of the time, there was only one guy from the mob who went close to the guard  (and he talked to the guard) - the others seem to be staying back!   The guard stopped to talk to them every now and then, considering he was just by himself .....therefore, I don't think he even felt threatened.

I can understand that in situations like this, it can get hairy since the situation is fluid - things can go sideways fast.  But that's part of a cop's everyday life when they answer to calls, or confront anyone!

Media makes it look like they were going to lynch this black guard!  That's what I get from this news reporting.

What's so outrageous was that the anchor still stuck to her narrative about that "SCARY" event for the black guard being "CHASED" by the mob!

She was lying blatantly to our face.  CNN is blatant now about giving disinformation!

This morning with Smerconish on CNN, the anchor was interviewing a former lawyer of Trump.  The anchor was accusing the lawyer of inciting the crowd.  He played a clip of what the lawyer was saying to a crowd an event (I don't know when or where it was taken).  The lawyer said (referring to Pence).....something like, anyone who doesn't stand up for it shouldn't be in office.  "SHOULDN'T BE IN OFFICE," was apparently the phrase that this moron anchor thinks incited the crowd.   He said, "look how the mob responded, listen to what they say..."   It was the clip that mob was chanting "hang Pence, hang Pence."   The lawyer accused Smerocnish guy of taking his words out of context - which is true!   Since when is saying someone "shouldn't be in office" be the equivalent of inciting?

You know what the anchor said?   And, this is what's scary - because this is the mentality that could spring up from this "new era:"  It may not be what you mean, but that's how it was taken."   How is that the lawyer's fault?

How many among us here had said Trudeau shouldn't be in office - and there was that army guy they caught trying to get to Trudeau's residence.   Could it be that he read our posts here and  he took our message to mean that he should pay a visit to Trudeau.  Are we guilty of incitement?

What about that comedienne who showed a decapitated Trump head on social media. No one from CNN found that to be an incitement of violence towards the President.  Heck, they made it even to be Trump's fault!

Look, moronic anchor, we have no control over what people think....or, how they want to interpret what is being said!  UNLESS of course, you want to take control of that too!

Like how I take the messaging by CNN about that video shown above!  I'm sure others would have a different take on it!

Should I say that CNN anchor is inciting blacks (BLM) and Antifa to do a payback?

Are you MEDIA inciting RACIAL WAR between colored and white people?

Can you see down the road with this kind of mentality?   YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SAY ANYTHING!

This is a new era. - at least they got that right!

It is an era so close to how Communists deal with any dissenting voice.  You could find yourself facing unjustified charges, and be penalized for whatever it is "they" consider a "crime."   Trumped-up charges.....no pun intended.

And we thought what happened to Kavanaugh, and all people accused  of harassment that happened 10 or 20 years ago - reputations tarnished, or some even lost their jobs WITHOUT ANY TRIAL IN COURT,  was bad enough?   Obviously, we haven't seen nothing yet.

Donald Trump was right when he called the lying leftist liberal pro democratic mainstream media fake news. They truly have become a bunch of professional liars and pushers of fake news. The liberal/democratic media will lie to high heaven to try and make Trump or any of their opponents look like the bad and evil devil.

As I always keep saying? When the media goes after anyone and tries to make them look bad and calls them nasty names then that is when people should listen to what that bad person has to say. In most cases that bad guy or gal had something to say that the MSM and their political deep state globalist bosses do not want we the sheeple to hear or know about.

The MSM must never be listened or believed or watched anymore. They lie like hell all the time. With the leftist liberal MSM one will always be guilty until proven innocent and that is how they always will do things. one will never be found innocent if they are after your ass. Sad to say but only buffoons and idiots will listen to and believe anything the MSM says these days. The MSM is definitely not on the people's side but just the opposite. The media is not there to tell the truth. They are there to lie and spread fake news that their deep state political leaders want them to say. CNN is the worse of them all. ;)

True, Michael.

Much of the hatred towards CNN had been manufactured by Donald Trump. I wish the FTC would do something about the QAnon movement. It's a threat to national security.  Even on this forum, there are forum members who have been brainwashed by misinformation.

There are posters on here that consider CTV to be "fake news." CTV of all networks.  If a network does not have Ezra Levant running things, then it is "fake news."

Overall, we rate CTV News Least Biased based on balanced story selection and minimal use of emotional language. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record.  (7/28/2016) Updated (M. Huitsing 6/24/2019)

You have a (rare) point there.  The question is what's a "fair" way to associate the actions of a subgroup to the supergroup ?

I don't think there is anyone who is consistent in this approach, ie. I don't think there's a person who will separate looters from BLM from the Democrats AND separate capitol mob insurgents to demonstrators in the mall to Trumpers.

This is an honest plea for intellectual clarity, for the benefit of the conversation.

In the First Denzel video link above, one of the things he said was, “If you don’t listen to the news, you’re uninformed.  If you do listen to them, you’re misinformed”.

All you defenders of the MSM should ponder this, or is it easier just to cancel Denzel?

Denzel making too much sense for stupid reporter.

Have dreams...but have goals...

But that's not what 'equity' is about...equity is about taking my dream and giving it to someone else...and not getting a damn thing in return.

You're still missing the point, Michael.

It's the media's responsibility to be CONSISTENTLY ACCURATE with the news they give!

But as we can see - what mainstream media we have nowadays- like the CNN as an example -  are becoming like the kind of media you see in Communist regimes!

Read the journalist code of ethics!  Looks like that's now obsolete with CNN.......and others!

No, the delay is to retool production to be able to manufacture more vaccines.

It's almost like people in LTC are at a greater chance of dying.

We're approaching 1 million people getting vaccinated in Canada and I haven't heard of a single death.

CLEARLY footage from the event at the capital that the OP and others identified have been distorted by perception tactics and camera angles by the media!

the Trump supporters were well known to have been officially invited to the capitol building for TEA AND BISCUITS! if one views the event from other angles you can see the boxes of sweets that they brought and the police inviting them in after displaying their invitations!

CLEARLY when viewed through a CLEAR lens, the black officer in the OP is simply directing the TEA AND BISCUITS invitees to the powder room where they would be able to freshen up after their long travels to the capitol!

and because of this distortion of the truth... Trump still plans to pardon all of the tea invitees! as soon as the election results are overturned.
