As a saying goes, "you don't kill someone who is committing suicide'.

Harper clearly is trying to commit suicide with his unpopular views of the world and recent afghanistan toture/Kyoto delimma. He knews that if he could continue peace operations in Afghanistan started under the past liberal government that that would not be an issue for him. He knew that if he accepted Kyoto and promoted it that it would not be an issue. If he would have fulfilled these two things, Harper would be looking at a majority.

Instead, we have an inept Prime Minister with irresponsible views that is corrupted and out of touch. He doesn't seem to have much left in him, blaming the past liberal government for everything.

Dion will just let this guy kill himself without doing anything and take its place. I now see that Dion will now have a chance of becoming Prime Minister, and I accept the facts.

Is this the same strategy as Martin sitting and letting Harper kill himself with his ridiculous policy-a-day strategy and appealing to consumers of "beer and popcorn"?

Appears that it will work just as well.

The only thing working against Dion is his character, he's too genuine for politics. Harper, on the other hand, is ruthless enough to make it as a successful politician.

Not one neutral moderate in the place. Interesting.

<<Admitted tangent>>

I don't know if I find that really surprising.

If somebody is interested enough in politics to be a regular poster here they are going to have some strongly held view of politics. Do you know any "neutral moderates" with a keen interest in politics?

Edited: I spoke too early earlier.

You don't need to be a "regular" to vote in the polls on these boards, you just need to be a member. Therefore, yes, it is still surprising that there are no moderates on the board who think our choices are slim in the next federal election.

Seems to me like the shoe fits the other way around.

Exactly the kind of ruthelessness I was talking about. Except that Chretien's success was also partly charisma. That, Harper lacks.

What a neutral and moderate evaluation of both Chretien and Harper.

When did I say I'm neutral or moderate?

Look BELOW at my signature.

Yep, just like last summer, let Harper and the Conservatives do their thing and watch the ratings go down, down, down.

And not a hint of any sense of the irony... :mystified:

ANYWAY, yes, the Conservatives are committing suicide.

Seriously, if you were in Alberta, what possible reason would there be to vote Conservative federally? Keen for another kick in the head, maybe.

I normally support the Liberal Party, but I happen to think that Dion was a very bad choice and is leading the party to 3rd place

Three letters.

N E P

You mean Albertans should support Harper so he can bring in his own version of the National Energy Program? I don't think that will sell very well.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Dion, except maybe his English. Even that I think isn't so bad. The guy is just too nice for politics. He was at 40% approval rating after the convention and he didn't do anything after Harper attacked him in those ads. He's an idealist who think great integrity and ideology is enough to win in politics, but he's up against a political shark. If he toughens up a bit he still has a good chance of winning.

I remember watching a reel of politicians getting pied by entartistes. There were about a dozen of them, and Dion was the only one who jumped at the assailant with fists flying. There was no hesitation. He had to be grabbed and held back.

He learned that from his mentor Chretien.

So what you're saying is, Dion's mouth moves the same way as his reaction to being pied,"on impulse" and without hesitation, and he should be held back from saying anything stupid......again......and again.

Too nice or too weak? He once said Kyoto targets couldn't be met, now they have to be, no matter the cost. Is he towing the party line for the good of the party? If he is, he is fulfilling his role as leader of the Liberal Party. The difference between him and "the shark" is that Harper's actions are not driven by party popularity. I don't always agree with him either, but he will put the country before the popularity of his party or self. This is called leadership.

Dion also lacks judgement and common sense which are both crucial to being an effective leader. Nice guy, maybe. He's just been promoted to his level of incompetence. That's all.
